Project
Thesaurus of agricultural movable heritage
HERITAGE FOUNDATION GELDERLAND
The Netherlands has a rich and diverse agricultural past, documented in historic agricultural objects such as tools, machinery, and everyday items. These objects and the associated knowledge are now dispersed amongst collections in museums, heritage institutions, and private collectors. Registration and digitisation to safeguard the knowledge are lagging, and a general overview is missing. A thesaurus for movable agricultural heritage will make objects and knowledge more discoverable and accessible to museums, researchers, and the general public. This will make it easier to connect objects from different collections.
In addition to the thesaurus development, the project includes workshops in several provinces to support collection managers with digitisation and registration in an accessible way. A network day for tangible agricultural heritage will stimulate cooperation and knowledge sharing within this heritage sector.
The project is being implemented in a partnership between Erfgoed Gelderland, Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland, Erfgoed Brabant, the Netherlands Cultural Heritage Agency, the Netherlands Open Air Museum and the Friesian Agricultural Museum. Additionally, the Centre for Agrarian History Flanders and the Museum Federation Friesland, among others, are also involved.
